Leisure Pools hosts corporate conference

Swimming pool dealers from all over the nation splashed down in New Braunfels to discuss how to wade through a mucky economy.
Leisure Pools, which opened its New Braunfels headquarters in November, held its inaugural dealer conference at the New Braunfels Civic Convention Center Saturday.
“We’re just trying to get educated on the greatest products out there,” said Bill Fearns, a dealer from Chesapeake Virginia. “We’re nervous right now. We usually sell at least 300 pools a year, and we can see that dropping.”
He said it was interesting listening to other dealers share tips on how to make sales.
“We’ve got 120 dealers from nationwide here,” Leisure Pools chief executive officer Ashley Gill said. “We’re discussing how to be smarter in this new economy.”
Since the economy began its nose dive, Gill said the sale of personal pools has dropped at least 50 percent.
“It’s up to us to be more innovative,” he said. “We’re still growing, and we’re trying to prosper while trying new things.”
Some of those things they discussed were technology used in swimming pools.
Representatives from the company that developed Leisure Pools’ materials, Interplastic Corporation, weighed its product against older technology.
Interplastic’s David Gerald said the pool surface the company uses — made from fiberglass reinforced Isophthalic Polyester — has at least a 15-year guarantee to not crack or blister.
“You can not buy a pool that has better resin technology,” Gerald said. “This stuff is the best there is out there on the market.” |
